WATOTO WETU HOME
We sponsor a Children’s Home in Nairobi, Kenya.

There are 14 children that depend entirely on this home and the wonderful church that manages this ministry. Most of the children come from the Kibera slum and have no functioning family. We are honored to be a big part of their support.
In 2007 several of us from the Vancouver/Portland area joined with a Forward Edge, a local missions organization to establish this home. The local covering is Pneuma Church of Nairobi, the Government of Kenya and the Waotu Wetu NGO. The home is called ‘Watotu Wetu’ which means ‘Our Children” in Swahili.
The children are protected and are doing very well in school. However, their diet is still very poor. Eggs and milk are weekend treats. Fresh fruit is rare. If you would like to designate your funds to go for food, 100% will be sent to Watotu Wetu for that purpose.
As the children become older and enter High School the cost of schooling goes up dramatically. In Kenya the decent High Schools all have dormitories the children live in during the school year. This is about $1,800 per child per year. Charity is our first child to attend High School and Pathways has raised the funds for her first year. We now have a second child entering High School. In Kenya a good education is the key to success as an adult. Would you consider giving a special offering for their education?
The best way to support the home is by making a monthly pledge. This helps stabilize funding and allows you the opportunity to fulfill the Biblical call to care for orphans. We have so much more than they do and this is an easy and secure way to put your love into action.
Below are some past reports from the home.

SPRING SCHOOL HOLIDAYS

The children closed school on the 31st of March 2011 and we are happy that they all did well in school and we continue to believe that they will continue to work hard and excel in their studies. Most of them were in the top 15 out of a minimum of 100 students so they are doing well.

HE IS RISEN!
We bless the Lord for His death and resurrection. It is with this in mind that we were all happy to attend the Teens baptism classes at church since January and what a joy it was to be baptized by immersion in recognition of Christ’s work at Calvary!
Christine, Gracious, Happiness Anna and Lawrence were baptized on Saturday 16th April … It was a wonderful and exciting time

Christmas 2010 newsletter
EBENEZER – Thus far the Lord has brought us!
This year we thought that the best newsletter would be one which the children themselves get together and write their own story as they see it.
We asked the older children to get together and this is what they wrote … ENJOY!

Greetings, in the Name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. How are you all doing? We as Watoto Wetu are doing fine. We bless the Lord for He has brought us this far.
CHRISTMAS DAY CELEBRATIONS!
On Christmas day we went early to Church for the Christmas service.
There were many activities like singing, dancing, skits and we as Watoto Wetu did a special presentation in Church and sang the song “Sing hallelujah to the Lord” in ten (10) different languages which were, English, Kiswahili, Shona (a South African language), German, Chinese, French, Spanish, Korean, Finnish and Russian. It was very interesting learning to sing in those languages.
We all shared a BIG cake with the church members after the service. We had a special Christmas meal… it was delicious! We all got bags FULL of gifts and we were very happy!
Thank you for making all these things possible without your contribution we would not be where we are today that is why we can all say “EBENEZER” thus far the Lord has brought us!
OFF TO CAMP!
We closed school on the 24th November 2010 and we were all looking forward to Christmas holidays. Five of us started preparing for the church Adolescent / teens camp (we had NEVER been to one in our lives) and we had to pray hard because there was a fee to be paid and we had to trust God for people to donate funds so that we can go.
We also had to work to raise money so every Sunday after church we had fun selling peanuts, cakes and doughnuts and some of us (including
other children from the Kibera slum) also washed cars for the church members so that we could pay for transport to the camp-site!
We were happy that we got a donor who sponsored all of us for the camp which was from December 6th to the 10th. The Theme of the camp which was held in a school in the Rift Valley province of Kenya was “Reflecting His Image ” and we learnt so much about reflecting the image of God in our daily lives.
FUN DAY!

We were taken to Mamba village in December just before Christmas as a treat. We had great fun seeing wild animals like crocodiles, tortoises, giraffes, Ostriches and peacocks. We even saw domestic animals like rabbits, geese and we learned that the male peacock is more beautiful than the female one! We were surprised.

We later went for boat riding, horse riding, merry-go-round, bouncing castle and then we proceeded for lunch which was very good we had chips (fries for Americans), chicken, sausages and salad and a soda (bottle of pop) each!
PRAISE REPORTS
- Charity sat for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (K.C.P.E) final exam and passed. This exam is highly competitive and many students do not get a chance to continue with their education since the High schools are few. We praise the Lord she passed this crucial exam considering she had been out of school for two (2) years before joining Watoto Wetu Home.
- Bryson and Christine (baby) were able to secure a place in Standard one at Milimani Primary School a government school.
- Most of the children were in the top 10 positions in class, and This shows that truly the donations that people are sending are not in vain. The children are being faithful by working hard.
- Favour began her kindergarten school this year 201 1 she is very excited to be in school for the first time.
PRAYER REQUESTS
- Please pray for Charity to get a good High school where she will be comfortable and for finances to get her admitted and her tuition and boarding fees which is pretty high. Our rough budget estimate is $800 for the first term alone.
- Christine (Shelly) is now a candidate for the same exam (K.C.P.E) that Charity did. Please pray that she works hard so as to pass very well.
- Pray for Elizabeth who is in college and pursuing an accounts course that God continues to give her wisdom and grace as the “big sister” in the Watoto Wetu Home. So far we are pleased with her progress and character. She is a committed member of the Pneuma Church Worship team.
- Please pray for our social worker Carol who is expecting a baby this year. That God will keep her strong and healthy with no complications.
- Continue to pray for the Land for the Watoto Wetu Home. There is a process that we have to go through and it is taking longer than expected.
- Please pray for finances to continue to run the home. So far God has been faithful our prayer is that people continue to be faithful in their giving and not tire and that God will provide for them bountifully.
- Please pray for Mom Eda as she continues to be the mother to these children. That God will provide for her personal needs as well.

May God bless you all.
HAPPY 2011
