2011 Journey Journey Thru the Bible
God has given us a very special gift: a book that gives us a revelation of who He is and in some ways who we are! It is full of His wisdom for living, loving and understanding life. 2,500 years ago one of the most famous Kings of Israel, King David, put the words below in a song:
Oh, how I love your law! I meditate on it all day long. Your commands make me wiser than my enemies, for they are ever with me. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.
I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts. I have kept my feet from every evil path so that I might obey your word. I have not departed from your laws, for you yourself have taught me.
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path. Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.
As a church we are going to be reading through about 1/3 of the Bible this year. I have selected the passages that give a good survey of the major themes and events. It includes most of the New Testament. We will average about 10 chapters a week, which will make it really very easy to do. I have also put them in the order that they happened. So when you read part of the history of the nation of Israel, you will also read what the prophets said to God’s people in that situation.
I know that our lives will be changed by this journey of regularly reading God’s words of life. We will visit countries and kings; peasants and prophets, warriors and wimps. We will walk through the sea on dry ground with Moses and re-live the miracles of Jesus! It is going to a great experience.
Jesus said that those who hear and obey God’s Word are like a man who built his house on a rock. It was strong, stable and secure. He contrasted this with another man who built his house on the sand. When the storms came one home stood strong and the other one blew away. I want you life to be blessed and strong, even when the storms of life blow.

This reading schedule gives chapters and also page numbers. The page numbers are for use with ‘The Journey’ Bible. It can be purchased for $13 at Pathways Community Welcome Table.
Most Bibles have added short introduction before each book that explains a little bit about the situation the book was written in and who the major players are. It is well worth your time to read these before beginning a book.
