Loving God through our praise and worship

Definition of worship:

The Hebrew thought is to bow down and adore.
The Greek thought is to bow and kiss.

God seeks those who will love Him through worship:

“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. “God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

                                                                                                                                              John 4: 23-24

We are privileged to be spiritual priests with spiritual access to His very throne room presence:

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
                                                                                                                                              Hebrews 4:15-16

As priests, one of our grandest activities is to offer up spiritual sacrifices. These include our words and songs of praise:

You also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.

But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
                                                                                                                                              1 Peter 2:5,9

Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.
                                                                                                                                              Hebrews 13:15

We can look to the Psalms, our biblical hymnal, to see the physical actions of worship:

  • Singing Ps. 104:33
  • Clapping Ps.47:1
  • Shouting Ps. 32:11
  • Dancing Ps.149:3
  • Lifting hands Ps.134
  • Bowing Ps. 45:1
  • Play instruments Ps. 71:22

We can look to heaven to see what the language of worship is:

The four living creatures, each having six wings, were full of eyes around and within. And they do not rest day or night, saying:

“Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come!”

Whenever the living creatures give glory and honor and thanks to Him who sits on the throne, who lives forever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before Him who sits on the throne and worship Him who lives forever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying:

“You are worthy, O Lord, To receive glory and honor and power; For You created all things, And by Your will they exist and were created.”

“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain To receive power and riches and wisdom, And strength and honor and glory and blessing!”

“Blessing and honor and glory and power Be to Him who sits on the throne, And to the Lamb, forever and ever!”
“Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom, Thanksgiving and honor and power and might, Be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”

“Great and marvelous are Your works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are Your ways, O King of the saints! Who shall not fear You, O Lord, and glorify Your name? For You alone are holy. For all nations shall come and worship before You, For Your judgments have been manifested.”

                                                                                                                Rev. 4:8-11; 5:8-13; 7:9-13; 15:2-4

It is powerful to praise and worship Him by calling out His greatness as displayed through His names. Use these in spontaneous, free-form worship from your heart to His!
