We had a Great Health Fair
September 11th 2010

Pathways Community Health FairWe had a great Health Fair! The dentists did actual dental work, including surgeries, not just cleaning! Over 40 people had one or more teeth worked on. 16 women were transported to the Kearny Breast Center for mammograms and are scheduled for cervical exams. At least one of these had positive results, so we are grateful it was detected. Dozens of others were screened for high blood pressure, diabetes, body mass index and other screens. Several social service agencies providing health, educational, housing and other services were on hand to distribute information and link people to their services. At the end of their visit all clients had their results reviewed by a Nurse Practitioner and then referred to free or reduced price health care providers.

Of course the kids enjoyed the Face Painting, pony rides and field games. All clients were treated to a barbecue lunch.

This was a totally non-commercial, free event that met the pressing health needs of many people. It was a privilege to work with the 60 plus volunteers, agencies, dental offices, clinics and food providers who made all this happen.
